If you have been following me you know I talked a lot about Teaching Online as a freelance business you can do from home. I have found so much financial freedom and I enjoy this business so much. In my last post, I talked about 5 Incredible ideas for freelancer teachers to make more money. One of those 5 ways is freelance writing. You don’t have to be a teacher to be a writer.
Writing is an amazing skill that can make you earn 5 figures. I know of one freelance writer who earns up to 6 figures each month just from writing. I have followed Yuwanda for some time and I have learnt a lot from her business. In fact, my first pitch as a freelance writer was to her for a guest post on Freelancing during coronavirus. If she made $169k in a month from writing, the, of course, this is a business to take seriously. After I featured on her site, I gained the confidence to pitch to different companies and my business is steadily growing.

01. Content writing
Content writing is one of my best freelance writing jobs that I always pursue. Being a writer means you have the skill to be creative and so produce amazing content. There are many companies and organisations looking for individuals to produce content for them. There should be authenticity and prime quality in the work. Content writing comes in various ways. You just need to be creative and unique in your writing.
These are different kinds of writing:
- blog posts
- short stories
- news articles
- product reviews
This is a combination of content writing and advertising. Freelance writers can engage in this and make money out of it. Copywriters make more money because they sell their skills to professional and established companies.
03. Proofreading other people’s content
If you can write, then you can read. When you are a writer, it is easy to see mistakes in writing work. So that makes you a qualified proofreader, right? Make money from it!

Freelance writers can create e-courses to teach other people how to do their own freelance writing. You may have basic skills to write, but you need to fine up those skills and more. You can only do this through experience. Beginner writers always search to learn from experienced and established writers. Take advantage and provide that help through an e-course.

For writers, researching is our greatest strength. To produce a high-quality article, you put in a lot of research. So if you already do this, then why not get paid to research for companies out there.

Writers can make money by doing simple tasks. There are websites that pay you to play games, read emails, refer friends and buy products online. What I like most about completing tasks is you can do all this during your downtime. At one point I took 3 surveys whilst in a line to catch the train in the busy area of Xiamen city. These surveys earned me $43. It’s not much, but a repeated process can make you a millionaire.

Many writers are making more money by publishing books. Putting down tips, tricks and ideas on writing can make you develop a book. When you have the content, it is easy to work on how to publish. Books bring passive income for a lifetime. This is one area I am still working on. Soon I will have published a book on Freelance teaching. I want that passive income.

- ProBlogger is another useful site that has job listings for writers.
- Bloggingpro- this website has blogging gigs for newbies. They pay very well.
- The Sun magazine– if you are good at non-fiction, fiction or poetry you can earn as much as $2000 for a story of 5000+ words. This website pays so well, I am still working on my 8000-word story to get that $2000 into my pocket.
- HostelGeeks – is a guide to world-class hostels and travel collection. They pay you to write about your experience in a 5-star hotel. This can help other people looking for that information. They pay $15 per hour, unlike other websites that pay per article.
- Wanderlust – is based in the UK. They pay for travel advice and country information. This is ideal for travel writers. Earn form sharing your pleasure trips. They pay 220 pounds per 1000 words published. They also pay for republishing.
- Great Escape Publishing – this is another travel website that encourages people to share their travel experiences by offering space to publish their stories. They pay up to $75 per article.

In my early days as a newbie bid for jobs and was hired twice. I loved the experience. It prepares you to bid for bigger projects.
