I have spent so much time putting together this list to help you make money writing this 2020. This cheat sheet also works for teacher entrepreneurs who want to increase their income with more freelance work. Writing is one of the easiest ways to make money online. This cheat sheet for magazines that pay writers comprises different niches. These include outdoor and environment, life, women’s issues and writing/essay magazines.
These job leads are assumed legitimate. However, because of time and resources, I simply cannot verify all leads. Please be sure to do your due diligence on any lead.
This is a widely read magazine. It seeks contributions in fiction, poetry or essays.
Submissions range from 500 to 7000 words.
Pay rate – depends on the article submitted and ranges from $300 – $2000.
2. Dame Magazine
This magazine focuses on essays for women by women. They accept submissions that are eloquent, provocative, irresistible and incisive.
Submissions are 800- 2000 words.
Pay rate – undisclosed
3. Five Points Magazine
Five Points Magazine focuses primarily on writing and literature. They need submissions in literary non-fiction, fiction and poetry.
Submissions are 800- 7,500 words in total. Submissions can be made online or via post.
Pay rate – Varies
4. Bitch Magazine
Is one of the best magazines on women’s issues that I have made several submissions to. Bitch Media publishes engaging, thoughtful feminist response to mainstream media and popular culture.
Submissions – articles between 1,000 and 2,500 words.
Pay rate – $200- 2000
5. Woman’s Day
Woman’s Day publishes most topics related to women’s health, fitness, fashion and more. This publication works more or less on a query basis. They like their prospective freelancers to have previous writing experience. They also encourage writers to send a few writing samples when querying.
Submissions – agreed during querying
Pay rate – negotiated with the editor upon pitching
6. Today’s Christian Woman
This publication focuses on encouraging, equipping and inspiring Christian women to live out their faith fearlessly in the grit of every-day life. They work on a query basis only and encourage writers to send a query with their article idea.
Submissions – vary with your query
Pay rate – negotiated with the editor.
7. Backyard Poultry Magazine
This magazine is an ideal piece for writers interested in poultry. They give you an opportunity to share your knowledge and get paid for it.
Submissions – 800 – 2000 words
Pay rate – Not all submissions are paid so first agree with the editor before submitting.
8. The southern Review
The Southern Review focuses on publishing literature with a distinctive voice and quality. They want submissions in fiction, poetry, and essays genres (including creative non-fiction and literary essays).
Submissions – up to 8000 words
Pay rate – $200 upon publication
9. The Grain magazine
They want informative and entertaining literary work. They encourage submissions from freelancers in poetry, fiction and literary non-fiction.
Submissions – 500- 3 500 words
Pay rate – maximum of $250 per submission.
10. Crazy Horse Magazine
They accept a variety of articles on fiction, essays and poultry.
Submissions – 2500-8500 words
Pay rate – $200 upon publication
