Twenty-twenty, what a year! How we live life has transformed rapidly in the last couple of months. This is the year that has seen many people come out of their comfort zones into what feels like a dangerous grey area, which they never thought they’d see themselves in. Working spaces are no exception. You may wonder if now is the best time to start freelancing. I too moved out of my comfort zone into the freelance world.
Now Is The Best Time To Start Freelancing
Workspaces are changing
Most of the world’s economies are struggling, some people are losing their jobs, and many are no longer employed in the same way that they were before the pandemic. Even people that are employed full-time find that they have been working from home since the coronavirus took the world by storm. This means that it may be the best time to start freelancing.
If you, like myself, used to work in a job where you wore your high heels and drive to work to be by your desk at 8 am, your life may have changed drastically. If you’re like many people worldwide who lost their more traditional job, you may now find yourself idle at home with too much time and not enough money.
This may mean that you’re having to reimagine “The New Normal”.The face of the workplace and employment spaces has changed, and may very well never go back to its earlier form. Click To Tweet
And that may be a good thing. If you’ve never considered becoming self-employed, now would be convenient to explore if it is the best time to start freelancing.
You can exercise creative freedom
Recently I have found that spending time at home without a full-time job nudged me to realise that it was the best time to start a freelance job for me. It was the rather persuading combination of boredom, idleness, and brokenness.
That combination encouraged me to stretch my creative wings and fly off into the endless horizon of unicorns and fairies and all things imagination. I have always been a creative writer. I enjoy the flow of words coming out of my pen and littering snow-white paper with my thoughts and feelings. The opportunity to immortalise a piece of my mind… priceless.
You will have financial stability
Also, importantly, being without a full-time job means not having a steady income. I’m also somebody that likes pleasant things. Yes, I like material things, but mainly I like to eat. So having money is very important to me! I monetized my interest in writing. Killing the two birds with one stone to transform my financial freedom.
Yes, and make money at the end of the day. In my opinion, it is the best time to start freelancing.
There are many ways to make money as a freelancer online. Because this is where my expertise lies, we are going to talk about why right now is the best time for you to start freelancing as a writer.
You can write about your interests
The glorious thing is that almost anyone can be a freelance writer, as long as you can write. People generally gravitate towards certain interests, they grow their interest, become passionate, and in the end, hone their skills. Many people have interests that they can confidently speak about. You can unreservedly, without a doubt, write about something you are passionate about.
When I first started researching whether now is the best time to become a freelance writer for me, I came across many resources, and I found from this research that the first thing that I needed to do was find a niche.
That thing that separates me from other writers. What I’m really good at. I found a gentleman who was a writer, and he only focused on writing about golf.
He was passionate about golf, and he was a decent writer, so he created a freelancing business writing about golf. So yes, he found a space that he managed to slither into, take ownership, flourish and most importantly make money out of.
If you think yourself a writer, there will be an opportunity for you to write about the things you find interesting. Now is the best time to start freelancing online.
Write about what you like and get to be your own boss. Honestly, I can’t stress just how liberating it can be to be completely self-employed.
You feel accomplished
That feeling of accomplishment in freelancing will encourage you to have a positive outlook! Don’t you love looking at a piece of work, giving it a good read over and feeling that sense of accomplishment? Yes, I love it.
Putting yourself out there as a writer and getting your work out there will give you a great sense of achievement that will be sure to boost your overall confidence. The COVID pandemic has had many people feeling unproductive and idle. Concentrating on writing will bring back any feeling of confidence that was slowly slipping away.
Financial independence is exhilarating. Working at your own pace to make your own money gives you such wonderful freedom in a time of uncertainty. It’s great to know that you have the agency to use some initiative, time and skill to make money out of.
You may find that you will not want to enter the formal job market again, as freelancing lets you create personalised schedules and work at a pace you set, you’ll have the freedom of financial independence and you’ll feel accomplished.
There is no better time to start freelancing online as the world is changing and content creators/writers don’t necessarily have to be in-house anymore. Starting right now will allow you to understand how to navigate new remote working arrangements and establish your brand.
